Doggie Bag Pros and Cons

Pet parents will know the temptation of giving leftover food to our dogs. It’s almost a way of making them feel part of the family! At least that’s how we view it. While many have their opinions about whether or not leftovers are good for dogs, there’s no right or wrong answer.

What we know for sure is that there are certain foods that you simply cannot give your pooches because it’s like poison to them. Take a look at the list below for no-go foodies:

  • Chocolate
  • Grapes and raisins
  • Onions and garlic
  • Avocado
  • Macadamia nuts
  • Cheese
  • Artificial sweetener

Beyond this, it’s fat content and portion sizes that matter the most. Feeding your dog too many leftovers will likely result in weight gain and digestive problems. The same applies to trans-fat foods like baked and fried goods, which are often associated with heart problems, too.

Unprocessed foods are your best bet when it comes to leftovers. Think fish, meat, and potatoes, for example. They’ll still be able to enjoy a treat, just one that’s good for them.
