Puppy Training

Congratulations on your new bundle of fluff! Puppies bring so much joy to our lives and can turn an average day into an adventure. Things might seem a little hectic at first as they find their feet (and where to do their business) but they grow out of these tendencies quickly.

The question is, are you patient enough to wait it out?

Training puppies can be challenging but not impossible. If you’re up for the task, then here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Try reward-based training to encourage good behaviour, establish confidence, and instil trust in you as their leader.
  • Consistency is everything! The more you stick to a schedule, the faster they’ll learn. Try not to skip days in between and stay within a similar setting.
  • Schedule short sessions throughout the day whereby your puppy can practice things they’ve already learnt until it sticks.

Busy schedules can prevent us from dedicating this much time to our pups. In which case, external training is a good idea! Here are a few factors to consider when choosing a trainer:

  • Read online reviews or ask for references to understand exactly what you and your puppy are getting yourselves into.
  • Check out their facilities before committing to a training school. You’ll want your puppy in a happy environment if they’re to properly learn.
  • Watch a training class to ensure you agree with their training methods and to observe how their other dogs behave.
