How Many Calories Should your Dog Consume? We Find Out!

Maintaining your pet’s weight will assist in keeping their blood sugar levels down, lowering their cholesterol, and reducing the risk of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. One fail-safe way to get this right is by monitoring their calorie consumption.

Now, if you’re anything like us, it’s an intimidating thought. Especially considering how hard it is to monitor our own eating. The truth of the matter is that it’s actually not as daunting as one might anticipate. Your first port of call? Determining what your dog’s lean weight should be.

Once you’ve established this, weigh them to see how close or far off they are, before forcing them into a new eating routine. An easy way to calculate the number of calories they need per day is to multiply their weight by 30 and add 70 to the final number.

While that’s the general rule of thumb, the formula will vary depending on age, size, and breed. Should your pooch have any underlying health issues, their calorie intake will differ, too.

It’s best to chat to your vet who can advise you on how best to feed your unique doggo and stick to high-premium dog food that contains only the best ingredients. Watch our latest video on Calorie Consumption and subscribe for more nutritional advice.
