Considerations for High-Quality Dry Dog Food

Dry dog food isn’t exactly hard to come by. We’re actually pretty spoilt for choice when it comes to its availability. Take a stroll through a pet store or supermarket and there are enough options to make your doggo drool and your head spin. So, how are you to ensure you’re making the best choice for your pet?

Luckily, there are a few key elements to look out for when it comes to high-quality dog food that’ll aid in their digestion, promote healthy bones and skin, and enable their growth.

  1. Raw Materials

Pay attention to the raw ingredients used in your pet food. These should include protein, fat, fibre, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. The ingredients should be balanced in a way that provides optimal nutrition depending on the size, age, and breed of your dog.

  1. Protein Choices

On that note, animal protein sources are beneficial as they include more amino acids than plant-based proteins. The percentage of such is equally as important. If your pet food claims to include a certain percentage of protein, make sure this is the case.

  1. Food Processing

Despite using all the right ingredients, if not processed correctly, your pooch will battle to absorb any of their nutrients. The process includes several steps namely, grinding, compounding and mixing, extrusion, and lastly, drying and cooling. Each step needs careful consideration and the right temperatures to achieve the best results.
